When it comes to packing and planning for a holiday I think I’ve managed to get it all figured out. Over the last couple of years I’ve been traveling a couple of times a year and have sort of worked out what works for me when it comes to packing and planning for a trip. This is more-son for domestic flights as I haven’t traveled internationally in a few years.

One thing I love to do when going away is a pre-holiday house clean. I’m someone who loves to come home to a nice clean house so I always love to have a bit of a clean before I leave. Some of the cleaning I love to do is make sure my bed is made, sometime I even change the sheets before I go and give my other ones a wash. I also don’t like having dirty clothes whilst I’m away. I prefer to try and wash all my clothes before I leave so that when I get back the only washing I have is things I wore on my trip. Another pre-holiday tip is to go through your kitchen and get rid of any foods that might go off whilst you’re away. You don’t want to come home to a kitchen smelling of off food.

Something that I think is important before a trip is to clean out your suitcase. You never know what could be in your suitcase, like sand or other things. I love to clean my suitcase so that the clothes I’m putting in there don’t get dirty before I get to wear them.

If you’re someone who takes their makeup when they go travel a good thing to do is wash your makeup brushes before you leave. I always love going on a holiday wish fresh makeup brushes, makes doing my makeup a whole lot easier. I even go to the length of washing the brushes I’m not taking with me so when I get home they’re all nice and clean.

A tip that I feel like everyone would know is to wash the clothes your planning on bringing. Even if you plan of packing clothes that are already clean it’s good to give it another wash before you go away so it’s nice and fresh and doesn’t smell from being in a draw for too long if you haven’t warn it in a while.

Another clothing tip is to make sure your not over packing. Try and only bring the clothes you know you’ll need and that you know you’re going to wear. Maybe even pack things that can be re-worn and used in multiple outfits. What I love to do is take only a couple of bottoms, if it be shorts of jeans and then pack a couple of t-shirts of tops that would go with all my bottoms so I’m not packing too much.

When it does come to clothes and another way to not overpack is plan out your outfits in advance. This way you know what items go with what and then you have an idea of what you may be wearing each day.

Skincare and makeup is another area where you don’t want to over-pack. Make sure you’re only packing what you know you’ll need on your trip. There surely isn’t a need for multiple foundations or multiple serums. Just take what you know and love.

Something that goes with the majority of the previous tips is making lists. I make them all the time, especially when I’m packing for a holiday. I always make a list of how much clothes I’ll need so I know what kind of items to pack. I also love to make a list of whats going in my carry on handbag or backpack. This way I don’t forget anything important like headphones or chargers. I check it off the the night before and morning of my trip to make sure nothing is forgotten.

Last tip for packing and travel is to buy a electronic travel scale. These come in handy, especially if you’re traveling with carry on luggage. A lot of airlines have strict weight limits for both carry on a checked luggage. The scale weighs your suitcase so you know how heavy it is and it means you hopefully won’t get stung with any fear at the airport. As someone who’s only really travelled with carry on luggage over the last couple of years the travel scales have made such a difference and definitely saved me a fair bit of money in overweight luggage.

There you have some of the tips and tricks that I follow when it comes going on a holiday and packing a suitcase. I’d love to know if you have any other tips.

Until next time…
